Hope The three theological virtues in Catholicism are faith, hope, and charity. Hope is the virtue by which we firmly trust that God, who is all-powerful and faithful to His promises, will in His mercy give us eternal happiness and the means to obtain it. In our current society, however, many feel a great sense of hopelessness and despair. Many of us invest a lot of time, effort, and energy into things that let us down, and at some point we begin to lose hope in our own futures. This often occurs because we invest so much into things that cannot fulfill us in the long run (obtaining wealth, a new car, a bigger house, a person who doesn’t really love us, etc.). Sometimes we focus so much on these other things in the world that our prayer life and relationship with God suffers. When our relationship with God suffers we feel incomplete and it is easy to lose hope. Hope and prayer are very closely connected. Praying the Rosary is one of the best ways to get back on that path to feeling connected to God and to renewing hope. |
